Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The origin of Punk rock and hardcore punk in Brazil was around the end of the 1970s, by the influence of bands like Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Ramones. One of the first bands to appear were Restos de Nada (stands for rest of nothing) around 1978/1979. But it was only in the beginning of the 1980s that the scene grew, even with gangs of punks, specially in Sao Paulo city (and where "Restos de Nada" came from). In the first half of the 1980s, a lot of bands appeared from these gangs in Sao Paulo, and became important, like Colera, Olho Seco, Garotos Podres, Lobotomia, Mercenarias (an all woman band), Inocentes, Ratos de Porao. While in Sao Paulo, bands were closer to raw punk and hardcore, in the nation's capital, Brasilia, punk rock bands were closer to new wave: those were bands like Aborto Eletrico, Legiao Urbana, Capital Inicial and Plebe Rude.
