She has been living in Manchester since she was 9 years old. She has two Masters degrees in European literature and Scriptwriting. She writes mostly on Muslims women living in western societies and explores the challenges and problems they face. Her aspiration to become a writer developed in her early teens but Shahraz says she writes mainly to entertain and explore women's issues. Her articles have been published in many magazines and newspapers including The Times. Originally she concentrated on short stories which but progressed to writing longer and more substantial works. When her novel "The Holy Woman" was published it was a brilliant piece of writing weaving the lives the lives of the rich and their servants. This book has been published in numerous countries and been translated into various languages.
