Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The R30 was a New York City Subway car built by St. Louis Car Company for the New York City Transit Authority in 1960–62. It was a continuation of the R16 and R27 style. The cars were "Protestant" married pairs, which means that they were coupled together as pairs. The R30s were primarily BMT Eastern Division cars, although they would appear in the northern and southern divisions from time to time. 162 R30 cars as well as the R30As numbered 8250-8411 were overhauled in 1985. The unrebuilt R30s numbered 8412-8569 were also painted red in the late 1980s, but would start retiring in 1989 and were completely retired and off the active roster by 1990 being replaced by the rebuilt R30s that were transferred from the BMT Eastern Division.
