Rabi Ghosh's role in the play “ Angar” was noticed by director Aurabinda Mukhopadhay. Robi made his debut in a small role in his film “Ahoban” in 1959.He wowed the audience with his breakthrough lead role of a talismanic male servant in Tapan Sinha's classic 'Galpo Holeyo Sotti', which was later remade in Hindi where the lead role was played by then superstar Rajesh Khanna.But his role in Satyajit Ray's Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne 1968 became a landmark in his career and he is still fondly remembered by all as Bagha. Abhijan, Aranyer Din Ratri Hirak Rajar Deshe, Goopy Bagha Phire Elo, Padma Nadir Majhi are some of his memorable movies. He was also a noted theatre personality who was a student of Utpal Dutta's Little Theatre Group. He had also traveled extensively abroad for his performances in Berlin, Mauritius, USA and Europe. He also directed the movie “Nidhiram Sardar”.
