She is best known for participating in Cycle 4 of Britain's Next Top Model, in which she placed fourth. She has also appeared in numerous acting roles, most recently in an episode of Waterloo Road playing Tasha Lefton, a diabetic pupil who will go as far as refusing to take insulin so that she can lose weight, to be "Rochdales next top model". Cairns studied at the Sylvia Young Theatre School. She has had roles in various television shows, her most notable being a recurring role in the daytime soap opera Doctors as Emily Fenton. Aside from television appearances she has appeared in numerous amateur productions at the Leeds Civic Theatre, and took part in a rehearsed reading of Denied at the Theatre Royal, Heymarket.
