High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Radioplane Q-1 was a high-speed target drone developed in the early 1950s for the United States Air Force by the Radioplane Company, usually launched by DB-26 aircraft. First flying in 1950, the XQ-1 was initially powered by a Giannini PJ39 pulsejet, however the limited endurance this engine provided led to the XQ-1A being re-engined with a Continental J69 turbojet, in addition to being fitted with a parachute recovery system. The final model, the YQ-1B, featured additional refinements, and was found to be satisfactory. However the Ryan Firebee had been selected for production, and the Q-1 program was terminated.
