With sister Padmini, she started her acting career in mid 1950s and acted in movies of different Indian languages including Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. The era of dance in the Hindi cinema is considered to be begun with the entrance of Ragini and other South Indian actresses. Travancore sisters refers to the trio of Padmini, Lalitha and Ragini who were actors, dancers and performers in Tamil and Hindi films. The sisters born in a Nair family in Thiruvananthapuram(Trivandrum), the capital city of Kerala. All of them were dancers and film actors. Lalitha is the eldest and Ragini the yougest. Padmini gained the maximum success and has acted in more than 250 films. They have one brother, Chandrakumar, who is the father of the Malayali actress Shobana. Vineeth, the malayali actor, is also a nephew of the Travancore sisters. Their mother Saraswaty's, sister's daughter is the famed Sukumari, who is presumed to have acted in about 2,000 movies.
