Raja El-Issa was born in Jaffa, Palestine, in 1922 into a well known family with interests in literature, politics and intellectual thought. Raja El-Issa completed his secondary schooling in Ramallah and then joined the American University in Beirut. Eleven years before his birth, his father, Issa Daoud El-Issa founded a newspaper called "Phalastine". This is where Raja El-Issa began his career in journalism after obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Political Science in 1943.
