Rajshree was born to the acclaimed Indian film maker V. Shantaram. Her mother Jayshree was also an actress, and was the second wife of V. Shantaram. Her brother Kiran Shantaram was a former Sheriff of Mumbai, Maharashtra in India. While shooting with Raj Kapoor in America for the popular film, “Around the World in Eight Dollars” she met an American student by the name of Greg Chapman, to whom she got married three years later in a Vedic, Hindu marriage ceremony in India, that lasted five days and was attended by 15,000 guests. She then, returned to America with her husband, to permanently live in America, leaving her film career in India behind. They have one daughter.
