He first appeared in Millennium 2 (January 1988), and was created by Steve Engelhart and Joe Staton. Takeo Yakata is chosen by the Guardians of the Universe to be evolutionarily advanced, and becomes the cybernetically enchanced Ram. This places him square in the sights of the Manhunters, a race of ancient robots who hate the Guardians. They try and kill him and the others chosen to be advanced. The survivors form a new team and operate independently for some time.
