The song was sung and written by Ron Eliran, music and English words, with Amos Ettinger contributing the Hebrew version. It was the 6-day war of the Israelis against the Arabs in June 1967. The Israeli public feared a dramatic defeat, though Israeli and U.S. policymakers expected Israel would win a war quickly. Ron Eliran volunteered at the start of the war to entertain the troops. On the road between one military to another in the Sinai Desert, the song Sharm el-Sheikh was born.
