Randy Layton (born September 4, 1960, Eugene, Oregon) is an American record producer, songwriter, and head of the Alternative Records label, which released albums by The 77's, Robert Vaughn, Steve Scott, Two Pound Planet, and several others. His father, Sonny Richter, was a guitarist who was first featured on 1949 recordings with MGM artist Sam Nichols, then over the years worked with Cliffie Stone, Jimmy Bryant, and others during the 1950s until his last recordings with Monte Mills in the 1990s. Layton's first recording with a children's group was in 1966; after starting with violin and moving into drums, bass, and guitar found more direction in writing for other bands and doing artist management and producing concerts in the late 1970s.
