Gbinigie was studying for a French degree when she took part in the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant, 1993, and she went on to represent Nigeria at Miss Universe in Mexico that same year. In 1998, Gbinigie was a judge at the MBGN pageant. It is not known where she presently resides as she chooses to keep a low profile. The Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) pageant originally began as Miss Universe Nigeria in 1983, and was created by Silverbird Group. It was later re-named Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria in 1986. Winners represent Nigeria in Miss World and, until recently, Miss Universe - currently, only the first-runner up participates in Miss Universe.
