Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Houston, Texas, USA, with a city population of about 2.2 million and metro population over 5.7 million, has undergone ongoing construction to serve the many thousands of cars using the major freeways, most built in the 1950s and 1960s. The two decades were a time of expansion for Houston, and after the Interstate Highway System was established in the late 1950s, Houston shifted focus onto automobile transportation, leaving behind rail transportation. To handle the large traffic flow to and from Galveston and NASA Johnson Space Center, the Texas Department of Transportation has commissioned a two projects: one to expand of Interstate 45 from the Medical Center Boulevard south to Texas State Highway NASA Road 1, and another to build a bypass freeway (the NASA Road 1 Byapss Freeway) directly merging with NASA Road 1 from Interstate 45. Plans for the bypass freeway had been in existence since 2001, construction began in late 2003. The expansion project is scheduled to be completed by spring 2010, while the bypass freeway was completed in late 2008.
