Jones has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography with Meteorology and Spanish minors from the University of Miami as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Geosciences Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. Jones was a freelance meteorologist at WFOR-TV in Miami, Florida between 2006-2007. He provided weekday forecasts for WFOR during the CBS Early Show, filled in during noon newscasts, and weekend mornings. While at WFOR he provided local weather reports on the WTVX in West Palm Beach during the nationally syndicated morning The Daily Buzz. He was later a freelance meteorologist for the now-defunct NBC Weather Plus. His most recent job was as a freelance meteorologist for WTSP in St. Petersburg, Florida.
