High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Rob Pruitt (born 1964 in Washington D.C) is a contemporary artist based in New York City. Pruitt rose to prominence in the early 90's alongside his then-partner Jack Early, working under the moniker Pruitt-Early. Pruitt's first two shows, "Artworks for Teenage Boys" (1991) and "Artworks for Teenage Girls" (1991), investigated conceptions of American adolescence in the post-pop era. Pruitt-Early's politically controversial third show, "Red, Black, Green, Red, White and Blue" (1992) at Leo Castelli Gallery, addressed popular conceptions of race and its relation to corporate America. Consisting of images of popular African American figures and overlain with a soundtrack of Pruitt-Early singing their own rap song, it was widely decried as racist. Pruitt–Early dissolved and Pruitt was effectively dismissed from the art world.
