He represented Renfrew South in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1894 to 1899 as a Liberal member. He was the son of Robert Campbell, who represented the same riding in the House of Commons. Campbell was a lumber merchant in Eganville. Renfrew South was a federal and provincial electoral district represented in the Canadian House of Commons from 1867 to 1968, and in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. It was located in the province of Ontario. The federal riding was created by the British North America Act of 1867 and was abolished in 1966, with the riding being apportioned into Frontenac—Lennox and Addington, Lanark and Renfrew, and Renfrew North. Paul Joseph Yakabuski was the provincial district's Member of Provincial Parliament in the 33rd Legislative Assembly of Ontario (May 2, 1985 – July 31, 1987).
