Todd is a professor of mechanical engineering at Brigham Young University (BYU) and a fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education. Todd holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University. He had previously received a bachelors degree from California State University, Northridge and an MS from Stanford University. Todd began his career by teaching at Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) for eight years. After this he worked for ten years in senior technical and management positions for General Motors and Michelin. He then joined the faculty of BYU in 1989. He developed BYU's mechanical engineering capstone program which was begun in 1990. Among other assignments at BYU, Todd has served as the coach of the Formula SAE racing team.
