Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Robert E. Hopkins (21 September 1886 - 22 December 1966) was an Academy Award-nominated screenwriter. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Story for the 1936 film San Francisco. The Academy Award for Best Story was an Academy Award given from the beginning of the Academy Awards until 1957, when it was eliminated in favor of the Academy Award for Writing Original Screenplay, which had been introduced in 1940. The Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay is the Academy Award for the best script not based upon previously published material. Before 1940, there was an Academy Award for Best Story for writing. For 1940, it and the award in this article were separated into two awards. Beginning with the Oscars for 1957, the two categories were combined to honor only the screenplay. In 2002, the name of the award was changed from "Writing (Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen)" to "Writing (Original Screenplay)".
