He grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa where his father was an electrical engineer. He began piano lessons at the age of seven with his mother, a musician. He matriculated in 1996. He resumed his music studies in parallel with his career in software development. Mostly self-taught, he also took master classes with Andrei Gavrilov, Lorraine Joubert, Maria Bajalica, Elena Kuschnerova, Lovro Pogorelich and Nicolai Lomov in Germany, South Africa, Croatia and the United States. Radio broadcasts of his recordings took place in South Africa. He gave his South African debut recital on 5 May 2003 at the Gencor Gallery, in Johannesburg, with a live recording.
