Chevigny was born in Besancon, France and was ordained a priest on October 3, 1948 from the religious order Congregation of the Holy Spirit . Chevigny was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Nouakchott on December 21, 1973 and ordained on February 23, 1974. Chevigny retired from the Diocese of Nouakchott on July 10, 1995.
