High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Robert Cecil Mortimer was an Anglican bishop in the third quarter of the 20th century. Born on 6 December 1902 he was educated at St Edward's School, Oxford and Keble College in the same city. Ordained in 1927, he began his ministry as a curate at St Mary's Redcliffe, Bristol. After this he was a lecturer in canon law and then Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology at the University of Oxford before his ordination to the episcopate as Bishop of Exeter, in 1949 a post he held for 24 years. A notable author, he died on 11 September 1976. He had four children, one of whom is the journalist and author Edward Mortimer.
