His mother is Broadway and television actress turned photographer Bette Marshall (nee Lieb) and his father by adoption in 1977 is Entertainment Law attorney Paul G. Marshall. His birth father is retired Maryland attorney Nolan Rogers. Robert's Grandfather, Jack H. Lieb, was a Newsreel Cameraman famous for filming Charles Lindbergh's take off for Paris in 1927 and for his rare color films of the D-Day invasion onto the beaches of Normandy and the Liberation of Paris during World War II which are in the National Archives in Washington, D.C.
