He was nominated for an Academy Award in the category Best Art Direction for the film Arizona. Arizona is a 1940 American Western film starring Jean Arthur, William Holden and Warren William. Victor Young was nominated for the Academy Award for Original Music Score, while Lionel Banks and Robert Peterson were considered for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction, Black-and-White. The story is set in the pioneer days of Tucson, Arizona in 1860. Life there is fit only for tough men and one very tough woman, Phoebe Titus (Jean Arthur). She catches the eye of Peter Muncie (William Holden), a handsome young man with a wagon train through Arizona but he soon leaves for California.
