Robert Shafer (born April 10, 1958 in Charleston, West Virginia, U.S.) is an American actor who has amassed a substantial cult-following for having played Officer Joe Vickers in the 1989 horror-comedy Psycho Cop and the sequel Psycho Cop 2. Mr. Shafer, sometimes credited as Bobby Ray Shafer, is best known for playing Bob Vance on The Office. Born Robert Ray Shafer Jr., his father, Robert Ray Sr. was a heavy equipment operator, and his mother, Phyllis Smith Shafer was a housewife. He has a younger brother, Edward Lee. After his father was killed in a car accident in 1964, his mother remarried and he later lived in Bowie, Maryland and graduated from high school in Romeo, Michigan in 1976, where he lettered in varsity basketball. In 1980, Shafer moved to Los Angeles, California where he still resides.
