Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Besancon is a Latin Rite Roman Catholic ecclesiastical territory in France. It comprises the departement of Doubs (except for Montbeliard) and the departement of Haute-Saone, except for the canton of Hericourt. The current archbishop is Monseigneur Andre Jean Rene Lacrampe, who succeeded Monseigneur Lucien Charles Gilbert Daloz to this post on August 13, 2003. Formerly it also was the Imperial city of Besancon a prince-bishopric, an ecclesiastical state in the Holy Roman Empire. Comprising only a tiny area around the city of Besancon in the Franche-Comte, the Archbishopric became an enclave when Franche-Comte was annexed by France in 1678. In 1792 it was annexed again during the French Revolution.
