High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Italian Catholic archdiocese of Campobasso-Boiano became an archdiocese in 1973 and a metropolitan see in 1976. The historical diocese of Boiano was renamed diocese of Boiano-Campobasso in 1927. It was suffragan to the archdiocese of Benevento. An archbishop (from Greek -, chief, and , bishop) is a bishop of higher rank, but not of higher sacramental order above that of the three orders of deacon, priest (presbyter) and bishop. Accordingly, one does not become an archbishop by ordination. Episcopal sees are generally arranged in groups in which the bishop who is the ordinary of one of them has certain powers and duties of oversight over the other sees.
