High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Metropolitan Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest is part of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary. It represents two Hungarian cities, Esztergom and the national capital Budapest. These two prominent cities fall under the tutelage of one diocese due to Hungary's early history wherein Esztergom was one of the former capitals of the Kingdom of Hungary (much larger than the present republic – roughly the eastern half of the Habsburg empire). The diocese was founded in the 10th century. Its name was changed from Archdiocese of Esztergom on May 31, 1993. It had a uniquely prominent status, see under the title of Prince primate.
