On 22 March 2007 Joseph Henry Ganda retired as archbishop of the Archdiocese after 26 years in the post. Edward Tamba Charles was appointed Archbishop in a ceremony at Santanno House, Freetown, in March 2008 by Archbishop George Anthony Sammy, the Apostolic Nuncio to Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia. Joseph Henry Ganda (born 22 March 1932 in Serabu, Bo District, Sierra Leone) is the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Freetown and Bo in Sierra Leone. Born in the village Serabu in the Bo district, he was the first in the area to study for the priesthood. He completed seminary training at Bigard Memorial Seminary in Enugu, Nigeria in 1955 returning home a Deacon.
