The Latin Rite Catholic Archdiocese of Santa Fe de la Vera Cruz (erected 15 February 1897, as the Diocese of Santa Fe) is in Argentina and is a metropolitan diocese, responsible for the suffragan Dioceses of Rafaela and Reconquista. It was elevated to an archdiocese on 20 April 1934 and renamed on 19 September 1992. In Christian churches with episcopal polity, the rank of metropolitan bishop, or simply metropolitan, pertains to the diocesan bishop or archbishop (then more precisely called metropolitan archbishop) of a metropolis; that is, the chief city of a historical Roman province, ecclesiastical province, or regional capital.
