The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sherbrooke is a Roman Catholic archdiocese that includes part of the Province of Quebec and includes the suffragan dioceses of Nicolet and Saint-Hyacinthe. It is currently led by Archbishop Andre Gaumond. As of 2004, the archdiocese contains 107 parishes, 195 active diocesan priests, 107 religious priests, and 291,000 Catholics. It also has 1,012 Women Religious, 197 Religious Brothers, and 18 permanent deacons. A Diocese is the district or see under the pastoral care of a bishop, it is divided into parishes. In some forms of Christianity, a diocese is an administrative territorial unit administered by a bishop. It is also referred to as a bishopric or Episcopal Area (as in United Methodism)/episcopal see, though strictly the term episcopal see refers to the domain of ecclesiastical authority officially held by the bishop, and bishopric to the post of being bishop.
