High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Roman Catholic Brahmin (RCB), also referred to as Bamonn in Konkani, are a caste of modern day descendants of Brahmin converts to Roman Catholicism. In Goa, the Bamons belonged originally to priestly caste, had taken up various occupations like agriculture, trade, commerce, goldsmithy, etc. All sub-castes eg.Gowd Saraswat Brahmins, Padyes, the Daivadnyas or chattim, as seen from the surnames of the members of the communes, purportedly all-brahmins were lumped into the Christian caste of Bamons. As such, it is considered by some to be a Brahmin sub-caste which practises Christianity. The origins of this particular community can be traced back to the first Portuguese missionaries who arrived in India in the early 15th century to spread the message of Christianity.
