Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Diocese of Des Moines is the Roman Catholic diocese for the southwestern quarter of the state of Iowa. Dioecesis Desmoinensis is the Latin title of the diocese, and the Diocese of Des Moines is the corporate title of the diocese. The Cathedral parish for the Diocese is St. Ambrose's Cathedral. The Bishop of Des Moines is currently Bishop Richard E. Pates. On April 10, one year to the day after the retirement of Bishop Joseph L. Charron, who is a member of the Society of Precious Blood, it was announced that Pope Benedict XVI had appointed Bishop Pates to the position. Charron resigned in April 2007 due to health reasons. Bishop Pates was installed on May 29, 2008 at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines.
