The Diocese of Zilina (Slovak: Zilinska arcidieceza, Latin: Dioecesis Zilinensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese in north-western Slovakia including parts of the Trencin and Zilina regions. It has its seat in Zilina. The current bishop is Tomas Galis. The diocese was established on 14 February 2008 from the northern parts of the Diocese of Nitra, which shifted more to the south and from a small part of the Diocese of Banska Bystrica. The Diocese of Nitra (Slovak: Nitrianska dieceza, Latin: Dioecesis Nitriensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese western Slovakia, with its seat in Nitra. The current bishop is Viliam Judak. The diocese was created as the first one on the territory of present-day Slovakia around 880 (from the Diocese of Regensburg), during the time of Great Moravia. Its first bishop was the Saint Methodius. Its destiny after the fall of Great Moravia isn't known.
