The Diocese of Kerry (Irish: Deoise Chiarrai) is a Roman Catholic diocese in the secular Province of Munster, Ireland. It is one of six suffragan dioceses which are subject to the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly. The diocese was established in the early 12th century as the "Diocese of Ardfert and Aghadoe". It changed its name to the "Diocese of Kerry" on 20 December 1952. A diocese is the district or see under the supervision of a bishop, it is divided into parishes. An archdiocese is more significant than a diocese. An archdiocese is presided over by an archbishop whose see may have or had importance due to size or historical significance. The archbishop may have metropolitan authority over any other (then 'suffragan') bishops and their dioceses within his archdiocese.
