The Roman Catholic Diocese of Labrador City-Schefferville was a Roman Catholic diocese that included part of the Province of Quebec. The diocese was suppressed in 2007 with its territory being divided among the dioceses of Amos, Baie-Comeau, and the newly renamed Corner Brook and Labrador (formerly St. George's). In 2007, the former cathedral of the diocese in Larbador City was decreed as a basilica. It is now known as the Basilica of our Lady of Perpetual Help. A diocese is the district or see under the supervision of a bishop, it is divided into parishes. An archdiocese is more significant than a diocese. An archdiocese is presided over by an archbishop whose see may have or had importance due to size or historical significance. The archbishop may have metropolitan authority over any other (then 'suffragan') bishops and their dioceses within his archdiocese.
