The Portuguese Catholic Diocese of Leiria–Fatima has existed under this name since 1984, the diocese of Leiria being renamed in that year. It is a suffragan of the archdiocese of Lisbon. The diocese of Leiria was re-established in 1918, having first been created in 1545 and suppressed in 1881. The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Patriarchate of Lisbon (Latin: Archidioecesis Lisbonensis) is an Archdiocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in Portugal. Erected as the Diocese of Lisbon in the 4th Century, the Diocese was elevated to an Archdiocese in 1392. In 1716, the Archdiocese was elevated to a Patriarchal See, one of the very few in all of the Catholic Church.
