The Roman Catholic Diocese of Riobamba (Latin: Dioecesis Rivibambensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese located in Riobamba, Ecuador. This diocese was erected on December 29, 1862 as the Diocese of Bolivar (Latin: Dioecesis Bolivarensis) from territory of the Diocese of Cuenca. On August 25, 1955, it was renamed the Diocese of Riobamba. The diocese is currently led by Bishop Victor Alejandro Corral Mantilla. A diocese is the district or see under the supervision of a bishop, it is divided into parishes. An archdiocese is more significant than a diocese. An archdiocese is presided over by an archbishop whose see may have or had importance due to size or historical significance. The archbishop may have metropolitan authority over any other (then 'suffragan') bishops and their dioceses within his archdiocese.
