Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Taichung (Lat: Dioecesis Taichungensis) is a diocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in Taiwan. Originally erected as an Apostolic Prefecture of Taichung in 1950, the Prefecture was elevated to a full diocese in 1962. The diocese is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Taipei. The current bishop is Martin Su Yao-wen, appointed in June 2007. A diocese is the district or see under the supervision of a bishop, it is divided into parishes. An archdiocese is more significant than a diocese. An archdiocese is presided over by an archbishop whose see may have or had importance due to size or historical significance. The archbishop may have metropolitan authority over any other (then 'suffragan') bishops and their dioceses within his ecclesiastical province.
