The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tapachula (erected 19 June 1957) is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Tuxtla Gutierrez. It was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Antequera, Oaxaca until 25 November 2006. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tuxtla Gutierrez is a Metropolitan Archdiocese in Mexico. Based in the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, it is responsible for the suffragan dioceses of San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tapachula. Pope Benedict XVI elevated it to the level of an archdiocese on 25 November 2006.
