The Roman Catholic Diocese of Thunder Bay (erected 29 April 1952, as the Diocese of Fort William) is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Toronto. It was renamed on 26 February 1970. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto is a Roman Catholic archdiocese that includes part of the Province of Ontario. Its archbishop is also the eccesiatical provincial for the dioceses of Hamilton, London, Saint Catharines, and Thunder Bay. The Archbishop is Thomas Christopher Collins, with auxiliary bishops John Anthony Boissonneau, Peter Joseph Hundt, Vincent Nguyen and William McGrattan. The diocese was created in December 17, 1841 out of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kingston and covered the western half of Upper Canada. Bishop Michael Power was appointed as the first Bishop.
