The Diocese of Uijeongbu, also romanized Uijongbu, is a particular church of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in South Korea. It is the newest diocese in South Korea, erected from the Archdiocese of Seoul on June 24, 2004 by the orders of Pope John Paul II, and a suffragan diocese of the same. Its mother church is the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do. The Archdiocese of Seoul is a particular church of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church comprising Seoul, South Korea. It is led by the prelature of the Archbishop of Seoul, the Metropolitan bishop, whose seat is at Myeongdong Cathedral in Myeongdong, Jung-gu, Seoul. As the episcopal see is the oldest one in South Korea and that of its capital city, he is often considered to be the primate of South Korea, though the title has not been granted by the Holy See.
