Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Royal Sovereign class was an eight-ship class of pre-dreadnought battleships of the British Royal Navy. The class comprised eight ships: HMS Royal Sovereign, HMS Hood, HMS Empress of India, HMS Ramilles, HMS Repulse, HMS Resolution, HMS Revenge, and HMS Royal Oak. Launched from 1889 to 1894, they were the fourth class of British pre-dreadnoughts, after the Victoria, Trafalgar and Admiral classes. Bigger than the preceding Trafalgar class, the ship carried two more BL 13.5 inch naval guns, done by mounting them in twin turrets, and displaced nearly 2,000 long tons more than the Trafalgars. Only two of the ships, the Revenge, saw active service in World War 1, participating in shore bombardments of the Belgian coastline. Hood also lived on to the First World War, but was quickly sunked as a blockship. Revenge was scrapped in 1919, while her sisters were scrapped between 1913 and 1914.
