High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Ruimsig Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Roodepoort, a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is set to be utilized as a training field for teams participating in the 2010 FIFA World Cup after being renovated in 2009 and brought up to FIFA standards. At the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, Iraq used Ruimsig Stadium for their training sessions. Multi-purpose stadiums are a type of stadium designed for use by multiple sports. In North America, multi-purpose stadiums were built primarily during the 1960s and 1970s as shared home stadiums for Major League Baseball and National Football League or Canadian Football League teams. Some stadiums were renovated to allow multi-purpose configurations during the 1980s. As multi-purpose stadiums were rarely ideal for both sports usually housed in them, they fell out of favor by the 1990s. Since Oriole Park at Camden Yards opened in 1992, most major league sports stadiums have been built specifically for one sport.
