High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Saint-Bruno des Chartreux (Saint Bruno of the Carthusians) was the church of the chartreuse of Lyon in France until the French Revolution. It is dedicated to saint Bruno of Cologne and is the city's only Baroque church. At the end of the 16th century, the royalty and the clergy set out on the reconquest of Catholicism with the creation of new convents and the extension of existing ones. The hill of La Croix-Rousse was thus to return to the religious usage it had had back in antiquity. From 1584 and in the course of the following century, its slopes would see 30 religious communities, giving rise to the nickname which is now used of the Fourviere hill - "the hill which prays".
