Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Salisbury Center Bridge is the only covered bridge in Herkimer County, New York. The wooden bridge is one of 29 covered bridges in New York State. A covered bridge is a bridge with enclosed sides and a roof, often accommodating only a single lane of traffic. They have typically been wooden, although some newer ones are concrete or metal with glass sides. Mainly associated with the 19th century, covered bridges often serve as prominent local landmarks and have long attracted the attention of historic preservationists. The Roseman covered bridge from 1883 in Iowa became famous when it featured in both R.J.Waller's novel The Bridges of Madison County and its screen version.
