The work is a unique piece of a scientific research that develops two new media for arsenic removal using adsorption as a treatment technique. The work actually enhances principles of sustainability; it uses waste materials generated as by-products from glass recycling program (crushed glass) and seafood industry (scallop shells). A simple chemical-thermal method is used to coat these materials and creating adsorbents which have successfully been tested and proven for arsenic removal from groundwater sources. These adsorbents could be applicable to small scale water treatment systems where municipal water distribution grids are not available.
