In vehicle design and evaluation, crashworthiness is one of the most important criteria. In order to save time and expense, the real vehicle crash tests have been simulated and performed through computer using finite element method since late 1980's. As the vehicle structure becomes more complicated, the size of the respective finite element vehicle model highly increases. The computer simulation therefore consumes a larger amount of computer resources and takes much longer time when using a detailed finite element model. This book provides a new methodology of developing simplified finite element models for the vehicle crashworthiness analysis. The simplified models presented in this book significantly increase the efficiency of the computer simulation and also allow designers easily modify the original vehicle model to attempt and compare different design ideas. This book should be especially useful to professionals in vehicle analysis and computer modeling fields.
