Public buildings are constructions designed to provide specific services to a population. They have a very important social, political and cultural value and their architecture should represent these values, too. In architecture, a sketch is considered to be a drawing that describes a diagram of a project to be built. What adds importance to architectural sketches is the relationship established between drawing and architecture.
Architects use sketches as a tool for approaching their projects, to begin to give shape to the image they have in their heads. But whatever the material and support used, the aim is always to record the most significant features of each building.
This volume not only demonstrates the importance of the sketch as a work of art and idea in itself, but also shows the creative process to the end result. The following pages explore the phase that begins with the sketch, goes on to include models and renderings and eventually reaches the final plans.
