In 1936 railway connection Warsaw - Otwock was electrified as the first rail line in Poland. During World War Two, a murderous Action T4 program was carried out by Nazi Germans in a local psychiatric hospital. Jewish Ghetto in Otwock was liquidated on September 19, 1942, when 75% of its population numbering at around 8,000 was assembled at a layover yard in Otwock by the Nazis and shipped to extermination camp in Treblinka.Jews who remained were summarily shot at Reymonta Street thereafter.
